IOC Ethics Committee Dismisses FairSquare Complaint Against FIFA President Gianni Infantino

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) Ethics Committee has closed the case filed by the human‑rights NGO FairSquare against FIFA president Gianni Infantino, finding the allegations did not meet the threshold for investigation and were outside the committee’s jurisdiction. The complaint accused Infantino of political interference surrounding the 2026 World Cup, citing his interaction with U.S. President Donald Trump and a disputed red‑card decision involving U.S. striker Folarin Balogun.

The IOC concluded that the matters raised pertained to FIFA’s internal governance and its relationships with governments—issues not covered by the Olympic movement’s ethical code. No sanctions were imposed, and the case was archived without further action. Infantino denied any political influence while acknowledging routine contacts with heads of state.
