IOC Rejects Complaint Against FIFA President Gianni Infantino Over Trump-Linked Red Card Decision

Human‑rights group FairSquare filed a complaint with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) accusing FIFA president Gianni Infantino of breaching the Olympic Charter’s political‑neutrality rule. The complaint alleged that Infantino repeatedly supported U.S. President Donald Trump, including intervening to overturn the automatic one‑match suspension of U.S. striker Folarin Balogun after a red card in the 2026 World Cup round‑of‑32.

The IOC Ethics Commission examined the submission and concluded that it fell outside the commission’s jurisdiction because the issues pertain to FIFA’s internal governance and the application of football rules, not to the IOC’s relationship with an international federation. Consequently, the IOC dismissed the complaint and informed FairSquare of the decision. The ruling follows similar concerns raised by Norway’s football federation, which is also considering an ethics complaint to FIFA over the same incident.

No further IOC investigation will be launched; the matter remains within FIFA’s own ethical and disciplinary processes.
