Ion Ceban hospitalized after injury during family vacation

Chișinău Mayor Ion Ceban has been hospitalized following an injury sustained during a family vacation. Ceban reported that he suffered an “unpleasant incident” requiring emergency return to Moldova and upcoming surgery on his legs.

In a statement, Ceban denied allegations regarding the circumstances of his injury, asserting that he did not attend parties or experience the conditions being attributed to him by certain reports. He clarified that his family stayed in a rented apartment rather than a hotel to reduce costs and stated that he will continue to perform his duties remotely.

Local civic activists have criticized the mayor, questioning the funding of his luxury vacations to Cape Verde and suggesting the injury may have occurred under different circumstances. Ceban maintains that his involvement in municipal administration remains uninterrupted.
