Ion Izagirre to compete in final race despite broken wrist

Spanish professional cyclist Ion Izagirre intends to compete in his final race, Il Lombardia, this Saturday despite suffering a broken left wrist. The 37-year-old rider announced his decision on Instagram, stating, “I do not want to end my career this way.”

The injury occurred during a training crash approximately one week ago. While his team, Cofidis, had already declared his season and career finished due to the injury, Izagirre is determined to participate in the 240-kilometer race from Bergamo to Como.

After a 17-year career, including two Tour de France stage wins, Izagirre faces a highly demanding course featuring nine climbs. It remains uncertain whether he will be able to complete the entire race given the severity of the fracture.
