Ionian Islands region approves 3.17 million‑euro Myrtos road repair and receives historic art collection

Regional governor Giannis Trepeless signed a €3,170,661 contract with builder Platies A.E. to fully restore the municipal access road to the world‑renowned Myrtos beach in Sami. The work addresses damage caused by Cyclone Ianos and includes earthworks, structural reinforcement, resurfacing, signage and environmental restoration, funded by the Special Programme for Natural Disaster Infrastructure of the Ionian Islands.

In a separate ceremony, Trepeless also accepted the donation of a significant collection of 15th‑ to 19th‑century prints, engravings and photographs from collector Georgios X. Sourtzinos. The works, depicting historic events and personalities of the Ionian region, are now on display at the Regional Headquarters (Old Courts) for public access, enhancing the cultural heritage of the islands.
