Ionios the dolphin mascot features at Taranto 2026 Games

Ionios, a punk-styled dolphin, has become the official mascot for the XX Mediterranean Games in Taranto 2026. Representing the deep connection between the city and the sea, the mascot was selected by the public in 2020 through a survey of over 10,000 citizens, where it received 48% of the votes.

The mascot is a central figure throughout the games, appearing at competition venues, award ceremonies, and various city events. Plush versions of Ionios are presented to athletes during medal ceremonies, and the costumed character interacts with spectators at various locations, including the Fan Village in Piazza Garibaldi. There has been high demand for official Ionios merchandise in local and online stores.
