IonQ expands quantum computing footprint with three new North American deals

IonQ has announced three major partnership agreements in August to expand its quantum computing footprint across North America. In Canada, the company signed a memorandum of understanding with CMC Microsystems to provide cloud-based access to its trapped-ion systems through the Quantum Computing Sandbox, supporting Canadian academics and small-to-medium enterprises.

In the United States, IonQ entered an agreement with Sandia National Laboratories to co-design quantum information science technologies aimed at enhancing national security and economic competitiveness. Additionally, the company is partnering with EPB in Chattanooga, Tennessee, to establish the Tennessee Quantum Communications Research Center. This initiative includes a five-year, $15 million funding commitment to develop next-generation quantum communication research connected to a real-world network.

Following these developments, IonQ shares rose 8.2% during recent trading. The company recently reported quarterly earnings per share of -$0.33, which exceeded analyst consensus estimates of -$0.56. While some analysts have issued buy ratings with price targets as high as $100, others have maintained sell ratings.
