IonQ secures U.S. chip supply with SkyWater acquisition

IonQ received final regulatory approval to acquire SkyWater Technology, the largest semiconductor foundry that operates exclusively in the United States and is designated a trusted foundry by the Department of Defense. The transaction, expected to close on July 31 2026, gives IonQ full control of domestic chip manufacturing, eliminating reliance on external suppliers and strengthening its quantum‑computing supply chain. After the deal, SkyWater will continue serving its existing customers as a wholly owned subsidiary under the SkyWater name, while collaborating with IonQ to support the broader quantum ecosystem. Investors will receive the first financial update from the combined company on August 5 2026, with a detailed investor day planned for September 8 2026.
