IonQ to acquire cybersecurity firm Elisity in $1.3 billion deal
Quantum computing company IonQ has announced an all-stock acquisition of Dallas-based cybersecurity firm Elisity, valued at up to $1.3 billion. The deal, which includes performance-based earnouts, aims to bolster IonQ’s ability to defend against threats targeting AI models and the future risks posed by quantum computing, often referred to as ‘Q-Day’. Elisity’s microsegmentation technology will be integrated with IonQ’s post-quantum cryptography and quantum key distribution capabilities.
In tandem with the acquisition, IonQ has priced a $2 billion equity offering to accelerate the commercialization of its quantum platform. This financing follows a period of significant revenue growth, with second-quarter revenue reaching $80.1 million, a 287% increase year-over-year. However, the company’s stock has faced volatility, recently gapping down and hitting lower levels following the announcement of the equity offering and concerns regarding shareholder dilution.
Additionally, IonQ has expanded its research footprint by opening the IonQ Quantum Innovation Centre at Cambridge University’s Cavendish Laboratory. This partnership focuses on co-developing quantum network nodes, sensing capabilities, and exploring applications in fields such as chemistry, finance, and medicine.
