Ios featured by Le Figaro as an unexpected Cyclades destination

The French publication Le Figaro has featured the Greek island of Ios in a special report titled ‘The Unexpected Cyclades: A Stop in Ios, the Small Island in the Footsteps of Homer’. The article presents a view of the island that moves beyond traditional tourism stereotypes, highlighting its diverse landscape of sandy beaches, rugged terrain, and scattered bays.

A central theme of the feature is the island's cultural identity and its historical connection to the ancient poet Homer. According to tradition, Ios is the site of the tomb of the creator of the ‘Iliad’ and the ‘Odyssey’. This mythological heritage, combined with the presence of contemporary artists, creates a dialogue between history and modern art.

Le Figaro also notes Ios's shift toward a more sustainable tourism model. This includes the use of electric bicycles, marked hiking trails, and cultural QR codes to enhance the visitor experience. The island's capital, Chora, is described as an impressive collection of white and beige cubic buildings with narrow passages and small churches built on the hillside above the port.
