Ios island hailed as hidden treasure by German Travelbook

Travelbook, the largest German online travel magazine bearing the BILD seal, has featured the Greek island of Ios as one of the last "hidden treasures" of Greece. In a special feature titled "Ios: A hidden secret, still?", the publication emphasizes that Ios offers more than its former reputation for nightlife, showcasing expansive beaches, authentic Cycladic architecture, local gastronomy, cultural heritage and high‑quality yet affordable tourism services. The article notes that the island’s traditional village, known as the "Country of Ios", provides white‑washed alleys, squares and historic churches, while the surrounding coastline offers both bustling and secluded bays for relaxation. Mayor Iitos Gikas Gikas is quoted as saying the island possesses “multiple possibilities that go far beyond its past image,” and that continued investment will help position Ios as a modern, authentic destination for international travelers throughout the tourism season.
