Iowa Cattlemen’s Association unveils 2027 industry policy plan

The Iowa Cattlemen’s Association (ICA) has unveiled its ‘Building Iowa’s Cattle Future’ policy package, outlining state priorities for 2027. The plan aims to strengthen the state's cattle industry by focusing on several key pillars, including creating opportunities for the next generation of producers.

To support beginning farmers, the ICA proposes modernizing the Beginning Farmer Loan Program by increasing loan limits, improving eligibility, and addressing interest rate barriers. The association also seeks expanded incentives or tax credits to help young producers acquire livestock, land, and equipment.

Other priorities include expanding regional meat processing capacity, strengthening competition, maximizing the Working Lands Program, and protecting agricultural land from eminent domain. Additionally, the ICA intends to promote integrating cattle into land management to improve soil fertility and water quality, while advocating for reduced regulatory and permitting costs for producers.
