Iowa Crop Progress Report Shows Strong Corn and Soybean Conditions

Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig released the weekly Iowa Crop Progress and Condition Report for the week ending July 26, 2026. Six days were suitable for fieldwork, two point‑four more than the previous year. Topsoil moisture was 9 % very short, 27 % short, 61 % adequate and 3 % surplus; subsoil moisture was 7 % very short, 28 % short, 62 % adequate and 3 % surplus.

Corn silking was at 87 % (six points ahead of last year) and 28 % of the corn crop had reached the dough stage, four points behind last year. Corn condition was rated 80 % good to excellent. Soybeans were 80 % blooming (one point ahead) and 48 % were setting pods (one point behind), with soybean condition at 78 % good to excellent. Oats were 67 % harvested, 20 points ahead of last year, with an 82 % good‑to‑excellent rating. Pasture condition was 65 % good to excellent.

Weather summary from state climatologist Justin Glisan noted severe thunderstorms early in the week, followed by milder conditions. Temperatures averaged 72.2 °F, about 1.3 °F below normal, with high humidity and chances of returning thunderstorms. Naig said, “The week started with severe weather and ended with stifling temperatures and humidity… many areas could certainly use a good rain.”
