Iowa Democratic candidates distance themselves from Kamala Harris

Democratic candidates in Iowa are distancing themselves from former Vice President Kamala Harris as they seek to win over voters in the increasingly Republican state. Democratic gubernatorial nominee Rob Sand and Senate candidate Josh Turek have both indicated they do not want Harris to endorse them or participate in their campaign activities.

In the gubernatorial race, Republican candidate Zach Lahn has launched an attack advertisement targeting Sand. The ad characterizes Sand as a billionaire who is out of touch with working families, alleging that his political career and lifestyle are financed by his father-in-law’s chemical fortune. Lahn further claims that Sand intends to raise taxes for the average Iowan by $7,500 annually.

Sand’s documented policy positions include implementing higher taxes on out-of-state landowners, banning hedge funds and LLCs from purchasing Iowa farmland, and ending state tax breaks for data centers.
