Iowa Hawkeyes defeat Northern Illinois 40-0 in season opener

The Iowa Hawkeyes football team opened their season with a 40-0 shutout victory against the Northern Illinois Huskies at Kinnick Stadium. Running back Kamari Moulton led the offensive effort with 183 rushing yards and two touchdowns.

Head Coach Kirk Ferentz noted the positive start for the team, specifically addressing the ongoing competition at the quarterback position between Auburn transfer Hank Brown and Jeremy Hecklinski. Brown recorded 129 yards and one touchdown, while Hecklinski finished with 76 yards, one touchdown, and one interception.

The Hawkeyes' defense was a standout performer, allowing only seven total rushing yards on 31 carries. On the offensive side, transfer wide receiver Tony Diaz contributed seven receptions for 84 yards and a touchdown, though the team faced some challenges in short-yardage and goal-line situations.
