Iowa political candidates and agricultural officials address State Fair

During the Iowa State Fair, various political candidates and agricultural officials addressed attendees at the Des Moines Register Political Soapbox.

Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig discussed the state's agricultural health and the importance of supporting farm families. He emphasized goals such as expanding biofuels, protecting soil and water quality, and making E15 gas available nationwide. Concurrently, the USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service released the weekly Iowa Crop Progress and Condition Report. The report indicates that 90 percent of Iowa's corn has reached the dough stage, with 78 percent of the crop rated in good to excellent condition. Soybean conditions are also strong, with 77 percent rated good to excellent.

In the political arena, Attorney General candidate Brenna Bird highlighted her focus on upholding the Constitution, assisting crime victims, and managing a cold case unit. Democratic nominee Nate Willems addressed his background in representing working people and labor unions. Other candidates for Secretary of State and U.S. Senate also participated in the event.
