Iowa State football begins new era under coach Jimmy Rogers

Iowa State University has entered a new era of football under head coach Jimmy Rogers following the departure of Matt Campbell to Penn State. Rogers, who previously led South Dakota State to an FCS championship, faces the challenge of managing a roster with no returning starters on offense or defense.

To bolster the team, the Cyclones have utilized a significant transfer class, including quarterback Jaylen Raynor from Arkansas State. Raynor brings 36 career starts and substantial passing experience to the program.

In their season opener, Iowa State defeated FCS opponent Southeast Missouri State with a score of 42-10. While staff predictions for the season vary—ranging from a 4-8 record to a Big 12 championship run—the team is focused on implementing new offensive and defensive schemes, including a 4-2-5 defensive system.
