Iowa collegiate sports programs prepare for upcoming seasons

Iowa collegiate athletics programs are preparing for upcoming seasons. The University of Iowa volleyball team will host its annual Black and Gold Scrimmage on August 15 at Xtream Arena in Coralville. The event, which is free to the public, will include an autograph session and a clinic for children aged 12 and younger. The Hawkeyes are returning 13 members from their 2025 squad and have added transfers Liv Mogridge and Ksenija Tomic.

Iowa State volleyball is set to begin its season with an exhibition match against South Dakota State at Hilton Coliseum. Following a 23-8 season, head coach Christy Johnson-Lynch aims to lead the Cyclones deeper into tournament play. Key returning players include libero Rachel Van Gorp and outside hitters Alea Goolsby and Nayeli Ti’a.

In football, the Iowa State Cyclones are entering fall camp under new head coach Jimmy Rogers. Rogers succeeds Matt Campbell, who departed for Penn State. Defensive coordinator Jesse Bobbit is overseeing a camp where several freshmen, including linebacker Landon Kalsbeck and defensive backs Matthew McClain and Brady Hummel, are competing for positions in the lineup.
