Iowa woman sentenced to prison for son's death in hot car

Tiffani Huff Holmes, 42, has been sentenced to two years in prison following the death of her 3-year-old son, Myles, in Bondurant, Iowa. Holmes pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter after authorities determined she left the child in a sweltering vehicle on a summer day when temperatures reached the 90s.

Investigators found that Holmes had been drinking on the day of the incident. She initially misled authorities by claiming she discovered her son in the garage after waking from a nap, but evidence later showed she had left him in the hot car after returning home with her children.

During the sentencing, Holmes expressed remorse, stating she felt ‘remorse, regret and pure hatred toward myself.’ While she has since participated in inpatient and outpatient treatment and lived in a sober home, prosecutors noted she had entered treatment at least three times prior to her son's death.
