iPadOS 27 AirPlay issue exposes private content during presentations

Users of iPadOS 27 are reporting an issue where switching apps during an AirPlay presentation causes the entire iPad screen to be displayed on the external monitor. This behavior can expose private notes, personal notifications, or sensitive documents to an audience.

The issue occurs regardless of whether Stage Manager is enabled. When a user interacts with another app or window while presenting, the external output shifts priority to the most recently used app. This represents a change from iPadOS 26, which allowed users to maintain a presentation on the external screen while performing background tasks via the Dock.

Recovery from this interruption varies by application: Goodnotes allows users to restore the presenter view by tapping the window, Keynote exits the presentation mode entirely, and PowerPoint requires the user to restart the slideshow from the beginning.

It remains unclear whether this is a software bug or an intentional change to the operating system's window management and external display specifications. Users in educational and professional settings have expressed concerns regarding privacy and data security.
