Ipek Akıncı detained after İzmir beach sunbed dispute, court orders imprisonment

A dispute over a sunbed on a Seferihisar beach in İzmir province escalated on 3 July, when Ipek Akıncı and another beachgoer (identified as A.A.) argued over the space. A.A. claimed Akıncı insulted him and filed a complaint alleging "hate and discrimination". The İzmir Chief Public Prosecutor opened an investigation, and Akıncı was taken into custody. After processing, she was released under judicial control.

The Seferihisar 3rd Criminal Court of First Instance reviewed an appeal by the public prosecutor, citing concrete evidence, the nature of the alleged offense, and concerns that Akıncı might flee or tamper with evidence. The court concluded that judicial control was insufficient and issued a detention order, mandating her imprisonment.
