iPhone 18 Pro introduces faster charging via AVS technology
The iPhone 18 Pro and the upcoming iPhone Duo feature significantly improved wired fast-charging capabilities, capable of reaching a 50% charge in approximately 15 minutes. This represents a speed increase of roughly 33% compared to previous Pro models.
To achieve these speeds, devices require a specific technical configuration: a charger with a peak power of 60W, support for the USB Power Delivery (PD) standard, and the Adjustable Voltage Supply (AVS) function. The AVS feature allows the charger to adjust voltage in increments of 0.1V to match the battery's exact needs, which reduces heat and minimizes lithium battery degradation.
Notably, high-wattage chargers like 96W or 140W MacBook adapters may not provide faster charging if they lack the AVS function, as they revert to standard voltage steps. Currently, Apple’s 40W adapter (capable of 60W output) is one of the few retail options meeting these specific requirements. For wireless charging, using MagSafe with at least a 35W adapter can reach a 50% charge in about 30 minutes.
