iPhone 18 registration fees in Iran reach record highs
Registration fees for the new iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max models in Iran have reached unprecedented levels due to customs valuation and currency fluctuations. According to Seyed Hossein Sadat-Hosseini, head of the Tehran Telecommunications Union, the customs system has opened for the registration of these devices brought in by travelers, with estimated costs ranging between 180 million and 190 million tomans.
Discrepancies in customs valuation have contributed to the high costs. While the official starting price for the iPhone 18 Pro Max is $1,299, the customs system has registered it at $1,755. Importers attribute this $460 difference to the use of inflated prices during the initial release phase.
Market analysts note that the smartphone market remains under pressure from exchange rate volatility and import restrictions. Currently, new import orders are primarily focused on devices priced under $400, meaning high-end flagship models like the latest iPhones are largely subject to traveler registration rather than official commercial import channels for the time being.
