iPhone Duo developer creates virtual Walkman app

Independent developer Vidit Bhargava has created Duo-Man, a concept application designed for Apple’s upcoming foldable iPhone Duo that replicates the experience of a vintage Sony Walkman. Developed during a Bitrig hackathon in San Francisco, the app utilizes the device's hinge to mimic the physical act of opening a cassette player's door.

Users can select music on the 7.6-inch inner display to ‘insert’ a virtual cassette, then close the device to begin playback on the 5.4-inch outer display. To enhance authenticity, Bhargava recorded actual button clicks and tape static from a real Walkman. Following significant viral interest on X, Bhargava is developing Duo-Man into a full application that will support Apple Music, local audio files, and Apple Pencil integration for ‘rewinding’ tapes.

The iPhone Duo is scheduled for pre-orders on October 16, with general availability starting October 23.
