iPhone Duo features eSIM-only design and unique gaming capabilities

The upcoming iPhone Duo features a design that relies exclusively on eSIM technology, lacking a physical SIM card tray. This shift aims to provide more internal space for battery capacity and enhanced security, as digital SIMs cannot be physically removed if the device is lost.

In markets like Vietnam, major carriers including Viettel, Vinaphone, and Mobifone support eSIM via QR codes or dedicated applications, though the 'Quick Transfer' feature between iPhones may not yet be available. Users are advised to prepare their phone numbers, account passwords, PINs, and device identifiers such as IMEI or EID before activation.

On the software side, the new hardware is driving innovative application development. The puzzle game Porta Nubi, developed by Michael Temper and scheduled for release on October 23, 2026, utilizes the iPhone Duo’s physical hinge as a core gameplay mechanic. Players manipulate light beams by folding and unfolding the device, while using the bottom half of the screen as a virtual controller when the device is positioned in a laptop-style orientation.
