iPhone Duo hinge maintains durability after 32,000 folds
Journalist Joanna Stern conducted a durability test on the iPhone Duo, using a custom-built device to fold and unfold the smartphone 32,640 times over four nights. The testing process involved a machine performing 17 folds per minute, totaling approximately 8,160 folds per eight-hour night.
Measurements taken with a calibrated push-pull gauge indicated that the hinge actually became slightly stiffer after the testing period. However, Stern noted that in everyday use, the device felt nearly identical to its original state. While the test provides insight into the device's mechanical resilience, it did not address potential changes to the visibility of the screen crease, and the device was tested while wearing a case, meaning it did not close completely during each cycle.
Unlike Samsung, which has released official data stating its Galaxy Z Fold7 passed a 500,000-fold durability test, Apple has not disclosed official hinge or display durability specifications for the iPhone Duo.
