iPhone Duo purchase costs in Indonesia compared to Singapore and Malaysia

Purchasing an iPhone Duo in Singapore or Malaysia may appear cheaper than in Indonesia, but total costs often rise significantly after accounting for Indonesian customs duties and taxes. While travelers receive a US$ 500 exemption, excess value is subject to a 10% import duty and 12% VAT, calculated at an exchange rate of Rp 17,500 per US$.

One technology YouTuber reported paying approximately Rp 8,215,000 in customs fees for a 512 GB model purchased in Malaysia. When factoring in airfare and accommodation, the savings of purchasing abroad diminish. Additionally, devices bought outside Indonesia do not include official local warranties, whereas domestic retailers offer benefits such as 0% installment plans and discounts on AppleCare+.
