iPhone users spend 40% more on microdrama apps than Android users

New research from technology analyst firm Omdia reveals that iPhone users spend approximately 40% more on microdrama apps than Android users. While microdramas are often viewed as niche or lower-income entertainment, the data suggests a more complex commercial landscape across different mobile ecosystems.

In the United States, adoption rates are similar, with roughly 9% of iPhone users and 10% of Android users having used a microdrama app in the last three months. Monetization rates in the US are also nearly identical, with approximately 69% of iPhone users and 68% of Android users paying for content via subscriptions or in-app purchases.

Significant disparities appear in international markets. In South Korea, the largest gap was observed, with 59% of iPhone users paying for content compared to 45% of Android users. In Brazil, 48% of iPhone users pay versus 39% of Android users, while in Germany, the figures are 49% and 44%, respectively. Analysis of Sensor Tower data supports these findings, showing iPhone users spend roughly $14 per week on these apps, compared to $10 per week for Android users.
