Ipiales holds commemoration for victims of armed conflict

In Ipiales, Colombia, a social and commemorative event was held to honor the memory of victims of the armed conflict and highlight the long-term impact of violence on local families. The initiative was organized by the local Department of Administrative Culture in coordination with the Municipal Table of Victim Participation.

During the event, Luz Ángela Prieto, the subdirector of Citizen Culture, emphasized the importance of collective memory and the need for institutional actions to build a society that rejects violence. The ceremony included testimonies from victims, such as Andrea Mallama, the wife of patrolman Álvaro Jair Pistala, who spoke about the ongoing search for truth, justice, and freedom for her loved ones.

Participants also stressed the necessity of preserving historical monuments and landmarks in Ipiales to dignify those affected by war and support the foundation of peace in the region.
