Ipiales hosts “Raíces y Sabores” agroecological market

The “Raíces y Sabores” agroecological and peasant market has returned to the Alfonso López plaza in Ipiales, Nariño. Held every Friday, the initiative aims to strengthen the rural economy by connecting peasant producers directly with urban consumers, thereby reducing the need for intermediaries.

Supported by Pastoral Social and IDES, the market promotes agroecological production models designed to minimize environmental impact on soil, water sources, and local ecosystems. The initiative also seeks to recover traditional production practices and recognize the labor of farming families.

Alejandra Quiroz, an official from Pastoral Social, emphasized that the market serves as more than a commercial space; it is a venue for the recognition and strengthening of rural families. By purchasing directly from local producers, consumers contribute to keeping resources within the territory and supporting rural family economies.
