Ipiales conducts rural service outreach and peace initiatives

The municipal administration of Ipiales, Colombia, conducted an inter-institutional service fair in the rural area of Cofanía Jardín de Sucumbíos. This decentralization strategy aimed to reduce barriers to social, health, and protection services for rural and ethnic communities.

Key services provided included medical and dental care, psychological support, and gender-based violence prevention workshops for students and teachers. The elderly received assistance through the Colombia Mayor program, while indigenous leaders and educational institutions received sports kits via the Subdirección de Atención a Víctimas and the Ministry of the Interior.

In a separate initiative, the Diocese of Ipiales, led by Monsignor José Saúl Grisales Grisales, launched the 2026 'Semana por la Paz' (Week for Peace). The campaign calls for social reconstruction and community dialogue following incidents in August that impacted the local social fabric.
