IPN Secretary General Ends Dialogue with Students over Canal Once

Students of the Instituto Politécnico Nacional (IPN), chiefly from the Escuela Nacional de Ciencias Biológicas, have occupied the Canal Once television facilities since May 21. They assert they remained only in the parking lot, kitchen and bathrooms and did not enter the operational areas.

Negotiations continued, with a fourth dialogue table convened on the ENCB campus. During the meeting, IPN secretary general Ismael Jaidar announced he could not continue the talks and withdrew, stating, "Yo no voy a seguir tocando el tema del Canal Once. Yo les agradezco mucho la atención y la recepción. Yo me retiro." The students criticized the administration for a lack of understanding and for not providing information about maintenance crews.

Canal Once reported that it recovered its premises peacefully and will carry out a technical review of the infrastructure and assets. The institute plans to resume classes on 24 August while seeking budgetary agreements with the student movement.
