IPOA probes death of Dennis Osiemo in Narumoru police custody

The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) has launched an investigation into the death of Dennis Aremo Osiemo, who was found dead in a cell at Narumoru Police Station.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Osiemo was being held in connection with an assault and stabbing incident involving a former employer that occurred in July 2026. After being traced to Kisii and arrested on September 18, Osiemo was transferred to Narumoru Police Station on September 19.

The DCI stated that Osiemo appeared to be in normal condition after his statement was recorded and was scheduled to appear in court on Monday, September 21. However, Osiemo was found hanging from ventilation grills inside his cell on Sunday, September 20. The DCI noted that the scene was processed following the discovery.
