Ipoh mountain reserve land allocation under scrutiny

Questions have been raised regarding the alleged allocation of 0.8 acres of land to the Kuruvimalai Sri Maha Kaliamman and 7 Kannigal temple in Ulu Kinta, Ipoh. Reports indicate the temple was constructed illegally on mountain reserve land starting in 2017 without local authority approval.

Documents from the Ipoh City Council (MBI) dated January 7, 2025, confirm the site is located within a mountain reserve and that no approval was granted for the temple. Additionally, a 2020 letter from the Registrar of Societies (RoS) confirmed that the temple's association is not registered. Concerns have been voiced regarding the procedures used to grant land to the site, as former officials noted that the status of reserved land cannot be changed or canceled by the state government without following specific legal procedures.
