Iprev pension surplus relies on R$ 4.76 billion in future tax revenue

An investigation by the Federal Police has revealed that the actuarial surplus of the Maceió Public Servants' Pension Institute (Iprev) is dependent on the incorporation of R$ 4.76 billion in projected future Income Tax (IRRF) revenues through 2084.

According to the Federal Police, a municipal law enacted in December 2024 mandates that 70% of IRRF collections be allocated to the Pension Fund (Fupre) until 2027, increasing to 100% from 2028 to 2084. Federal Delegate Gleydson Machado noted that without including the present value of this future revenue, the fund would face a deficit of approximately R$ 4.46 billion. The report emphasizes that this is a conditional calculation based on a legal fiction and does not represent cash currently available in the fund's accounts.
