IPS achieves medical milestone with triple cervical disc implantation
The Instituto de Previsión Social (IPS) has achieved a global medical milestone by successfully performing the first surgery to simultaneously implant three artificial cervical discs in a single procedure. Conducted at the Hospital Central, the surgery involved a 31-year-old patient with herniated discs at the C4-C5, C5-C6, and C6-C7 segments.
Unlike traditional cervical fusion techniques that immobilize vertebrae, these Triadyme-C devices are designed to preserve natural neck biomechanics and movement. The implants utilize synthetic polycrystalline diamond technology, known as Adymite or Orthopedic Diamond, which offers wear resistance significantly higher than conventional alloys. The procedure was led by surgeon Dr. Elio Marín and supported by Dr. Alberto Sosa from the U.S.-based manufacturer Dymicron.
