IPS President Derlis León secures unpaid leave amid transparency concerns
Derlis León, the new president of the Instituto de Previsión Social (IPS), has received approval for a special unpaid leave of absence from his permanent career position. This measure allows him to serve as President of the Board of Administration and receive the corresponding salary for that role without violating laws against holding two state positions simultaneously.
Simultaneously, concerns regarding institutional transparency have emerged following changes to how IPS Board of Administration sessions are broadcast. A recent session was diverted to Paraguay TV and was not initially available on the institution’s YouTube channel for later review. While the material was eventually located on the State Media portal, the lack of availability on standard IPS channels has been noted as a barrier to public oversight.
IPS press officials stated that the change in broadcasting methods is due to the termination of a contract with a third-party company that previously supported transmissions via Paraguay TV. During the session, León also discussed the implementation of telemedicine as a primary alternative for medical appointments, noting that a significant portion of specialist consultations are used solely to review laboratory results.
