İpsala begins 2026 rice harvest season

The 2026 rice harvest season has officially commenced in İpsala, one of Turkey’s most significant rice production centers. The symbolic opening was held as part of the 25th Rice Festival and Agricultural Fair.

During the event, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Ebubekir Gizligider operated a combine harvester to collect the first crop of the season. The ceremony was attended by Edirne Governor Yunus Sezer, AK Party Edirne Deputy Fatma Aksal, and İpsala Mayor Mehmet Kerman, among other local officials and farmers.

Mayor Mehmet Kerman noted that the harvest is expected to begin in earnest from the first week of September, after which the products will be processed in local factories for distribution across Turkey. The festival also features cultural activities, including musical performances and traditional wrestling.
