Ipswich Town secures dramatic opening day win over Sunderland

Newly-promoted Ipswich Town secured a dramatic 2-1 victory over Sunderland in their Premier League opening day fixture at Portman Road. The win marks a successful start to the Gary O’Neil era, following his summer replacement of Kieran McKenna.

Emersonn opened the scoring for Ipswich in the 24th minute after being set up by Julio Enciso. Sunderland responded before halftime when Nilson Angulo scored a superb free-kick in the 39th minute to level the match.

The deadlock was broken in the 90th minute by Jack Clarke, who scored a curling winner against his former club after capitalizing on a defensive error by Omar Alderete. The result provides Ipswich with their first Premier League home win in 24 years.
