Ipswich Town signs Portuguese midfielder Florentino Luis for £19 million

Ipswich Town have completed the permanent signing of 26‑year‑old Portuguese midfielder Florentino Luis from Burnley for a reported £19 million, consisting of an initial £16 million fee plus add‑ons. Luis, who previously spent a season on loan at Ipswich after a spell at Benfica, signed a five‑year contract running to 2031. Manager Gary O'Neil said the midfielder brings Premier League experience and will strengthen the central midfield. Burnley, who had bought Luis for £20.8 million, accepted a net loss to remove his wages from their books. Hull City were also in negotiations for a loan deal, but their bid collapsed after manager Sergej Jakirovic confirmed the player was heading to Ipswich.
