IQ Renew launches Australia's largest soft‑plastic recycling plant in Somersby
IQ Renew has opened the country's biggest dedicated post‑consumer soft‑plastic recycling facility near Somersby on New South Wales' Mid North Coast. The plant, owned by the Central Coast‑based outfit, can process up to 14,000 tonnes of soft plastics each year, with plans to expand capacity to about 24,000 tonnes.
The new facility replaces the national REDcycle program that collapsed in 2022, handling the remaining legacy stock and now drawing material from NSW's Curby kerbside recycling scheme in the Hunter and Central Coast regions. CEO Danny Gallagher says the plant converts household soft plastics into premium recycled resin for new packaging and durable Australian‑made products, creating a domestic circular‑economy supply chain and reducing reliance on export markets.
