iQIYI project sparks debate over Sun Wukong and Lin Daiyu fan fiction similarities

At a recent iQIYI commercial recruitment event, the short film project ‘Qi Yu Ji’ has become a major topic of discussion due to its character archetypes. While the lead actors have not yet been announced, the premise has drawn intense comparisons to the popular ‘Sheng Dai CP’ fan fiction, which imagines a romance between the legendary Sun Wukong and Lin Daiyu.

The story follows Xiao Qi, a leader of Jing Ye Si tasked with protecting Tian Ku. Described as a warrior who has fought demons for 500 years, his character profile closely mirrors the myth of Sun Wukong. He is paired with Xie Yu, a character who appears human but is actually a spiritual herb with a unique constitution that makes her a target for demons. The striking similarities between these character settings and the famous fan fiction have caused the topic to trend on Weibo.
