Journalist Iqrar-ul-Hassan reportedly detained in Lahore

Pakistani journalist and political leader Iqrar-ul-Hassan was reportedly taken into custody from his Lahore residence in the early hours of October 12. According to reports, plainclothes personnel arrived at his DHA Phase 8 home around 3:00 AM.

Family members alleged that personnel, including women, entered the premises and took Hassan away. Some individuals reportedly wore badges identifying them with the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA), though official involvement has not been confirmed. Hassan’s wife, Farah Iqrar, claimed that family members were harassed and mobile phones were confiscated during the incident. She has since appealed for his immediate release.

Television anchor Waseem Badami confirmed receiving information regarding the arrest via a video statement. Iqrar-ul-Hassan is the founder of the Pakistan Awam Raj Tehreek political party and is well known for hosting the investigative program ‘Sar-e-Aam’. As of now, the specific legal grounds for his detention and his current location remain unknown, and authorities have not issued an official statement.
