Iquique and Alto Hospicio to undergo mobility survey
A new mobility survey will study the travel patterns of 4,400 households in Iquique and Alto Hospicio to assist in metropolitan transport system planning. The Origin-Destination survey aims to determine how, when, where, and why residents travel within these two communes.
The study is being executed by the Urban Transport and Road Program (SECTRA) of the Ministry of Transport and Telecommunications, with funding of approximately $515 million from the Tarapacá Regional Government through the National Fund for Regional Development (FNDR).
Results from the study, which is expected to run until the first quarter of 2028, will be available by December 2027. The data will be used to update the Metropolitan Urban Transport Master Plan and guide future connectivity and infrastructure initiatives.
