Iquique court sentences man to over six years for car theft and assault

A man has been sentenced to more than six years in prison for a violent robbery and assault in Iquique, Chile. The incident occurred in early March 2025 at Playa Bellavista.

According to the prosecution, the defendant and an accomplice approached a woman who was having a discussion with her partner. They offered to drive her home, gaining her trust so she would hand over the vehicle's steering wheel. Once driving, the suspects threatened the victim and forced her out of the car. Before fleeing, the perpetrator struck the woman with the vehicle, causing her to fall onto the road and sustain various injuries.

The defendant was later captured following a police pursuit in which he attempted to hide in a residence and provide a false identity.
