Iquique Customs seizes 34 kg of drugs in passenger bus

Customs officials from the Iquique Regional Customs office seized more than 34 kilograms of drugs during an inspection of a passenger bus in Quillagua. The operation, conducted on October 10, targeted a vehicle traveling from Iquique to Santiago.

Using a scanner truck, inspectors identified suspicious organic substances hidden in a compartment near the staircase leading to the vehicle's second floor. The seizure included 21.23 kilograms of cocaine base and 13.69 kilograms of ketamine, distributed across 31 packages.

During interviews, a bus assistant admitted to being the owner of the packages, stating he had hidden them the previous night to deliver them in Santiago for a fee. Ricardo Aceituno, the Regional Director of Iquique Customs, emphasized the importance of these controls in preventing illegal substances from reaching their destinations.
