Iquique Mayor and Health Authority Push Emergency Situation Room

The mayor of Iquique, Mauricio Soria Macchiavello, together with the regional health secretary Ximena Muñoz Urbina, inspected a municipal building slated to become a Sala de Situación de Emergencias. The inspection aimed to assess conditions and advance a collaboration agreement that would allow health teams to operate from the space if their usual facilities are compromised by a disaster.

The officials said the venue, located in the city centre away from high‑risk zones and equipped with independent water and electricity supplies, will enhance coordination and response to emergencies such as recent severe weather events in Atacama and Coquimbo. Formal documents will be completed to regularize the agreement, ensuring the health sector can protect community health during emergencies.
