Iran accuses Germany of double standards regarding Israel

Ismail Baghaei, a spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, has accused Germany and its European partners of maintaining contradictory positions regarding the conflict between Israel and Iran.

Baghaei highlighted a perceived shift in rhetoric, contrasting statements made by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz in June 2025—where he described Israeli operations against Iran as 'dirty work' performed on behalf of others—with more recent warnings from German officials in October 2026 regarding the dangers of escalating the conflict.

Concluding his critique, Baghaei referenced Friedrich Schiller’s play ‘The Maid of Orleans’ to characterize the European approach as a form of irrationality leading toward a precipice.
