Iran advances digital infrastructure and smart postal services
Iran is advancing its digital infrastructure through new connectivity projects in rural areas and the modernization of its national postal system. In Gilan Province, specifically within the Somayyeh Sara district, 15 villages have been connected to the national information network via new and upgraded sites. Additional projects are underway to connect nine more villages, while fiber optic installations are progressing in Somayyeh Sara and Tahergorab.
On a national level, President Masoud Pezeshkian attended the unveiling of several smart postal projects. Key developments include ‘Neshaniat’, a third-generation standardized addressing system based on the Geocoded National Address Framework (GNAF). This initiative aims to improve location-based services and management. The National Post Company reported that rural geocoding coverage has increased from 4% to 77%, with a goal of full completion by late 2026.
Other technological advancements introduced include a postal robot designed for package distribution in residential complexes, as well as the opening of new sorting centers and scanning tunnels across eight provinces to increase processing speed and reduce operational errors.
