Iran Air reports 20 to 30 aircraft destroyed in conflict

Taher Abdolhai, the chief executive of Iran Air (HOMA), reported that between 20 and 30 aircraft were destroyed during the conflict involving Iran, the United States, and Israel. According to Abdolhai, approximately 70 to 80 aircraft were targeted during the hostilities.

Before the conflict, the airline had between 130 and 140 operational aircraft. Abdolhai noted that Israeli attacks caused particularly severe damage to the fleet, including one Iran Air plane being completely destroyed. He highlighted that the nation requires roughly 1,000 passenger aircraft but currently possesses only about 300.

Beyond direct war damage, the airline's operational capacity has been weakened by years of international sanctions and restrictions. These factors have led to shortages of spare parts, financial constraints, and staffing challenges. Abdolhai also expressed opposition to the privatization of the national carrier, stating that Iran Air serves strategic national interests.
